Speaker Night, Speaker: Gracia Isabel Gomez

Gracia Isabel Gómez was born and raised in Mexico City. After many years of working in design, publishing and exhibition planning she decided to follow her passion and study Ceramics at Sheridan College in Ontario in 2013.

Gracia Isabel draws inspiration from mythology and her dream world. Currently, the ceramic medium provides a perfect means of expressing the hybrid traditions of her country, and gaining an understanding of the way colonialism transformed one of the most important cultures of all times.

Gracia Isabel has participated in a number of exhibitions. One of her first projects in first year, a maiolica platter “Augur’s Mirror” was choose to be displayed at the Gardiner Museum alongside historical platters in the permanent collection. That same summer she was given the summer residency award at the Mississauga Potters Guild. Finishing second year she was awarded a one month Summer Residency at the Shaw International Centre for Contemporary Ceramics, Medalta International Artists in Residence Program in Alberta.

Through the ceramic practice Gracia Isabel will continue developing artistic responses to social concerns.
