Come out to our holiday send-off raku and potluck! Members who are new to raku but would like to try a piece or two - this is your opportunity!
The Raku: Here's how it works... Experienced members will start the raku kiln in the morning, and they will be firing the kiln throughout the day. Once the kiln reaches temperature, loads will be fired every 30-40 minutes. Last load will go in at 4 pm. If you wish to participate, please have your bisqued pot(s) glazed at least the day before, so the glaze has time to dry (wet pots sometime explode in the kiln). Please be sure you use raku glazes. There are raku glazes you can use ($1 per dip) on the shelving unit in the studio by the kiln door. There is no fee to have your piece(s) fired. We can't guarantee all pieces will be fired, but we will try to get as many done as we can. Please limit your pieces to one or 2. You are welcome to watch. If you wear the proper gear (no synthetics - just natural fibres, respirator, etc), you can participate with the bins. A proper respirator with particulate and organic vapours cartridges is recommended. A paper mask is not enough.
If you have contributed pieces to be fired, and you are not helping with the firing throughout the day, you will be expected to help clean up the raku shed at the end of the firing around 5ish. Those members doing the firing will be tired and will appreciate the assistance.
The Potluck: starts around 6pm in the Mezzaine above the pottery studio. Bring a dish to share. Also bring your own plate, cultery, beverage, cup. Remember there is a nut-free policy at the AGB. The potluck always offers up excellent food - potters all seem to be able to cook! - and is a great way to meet or reconnect with other members in a relaxed atmosphere.
Silly Auction: after the meal, we will hold our annual, highly anticipated silly auction. Feel free to bring items to be auctioned off. New, clean items please, not junk. Some past auction items include pottery books, pottery, knitted items, table decor, gifty items, etc. We try to make it as silly as possible, so you head into the holidays in a good mood. Money raised goes to the guild.
